Malgrat de Mar
Situation. The Maresme

This coastal region of Catalonia (Spain), between the Barcelonès, the Selva and Vallès areas, is best geographically described as a flat land belt resting between mountains and sea. The Maresme comprises 30 towns and its capital is Mataró, a city with a long established industrial tradition.
There are three distinct areas which form this region. One, the Alt (high) Maresme, includes the towns of Tordera, Palafolls, Malgrat de Mar, Santa Susanna, Pineda de Mar, Calella, Sant Cebrià de Vallalta, Sant Iscle de Vallalta, Sant Pol de Mar, Canet de Mar, Arenys de Mar and Arenys de Munt.
The other is formed by the towns surrounding the Maresme capital of Mataró and, finally, the Baix (low) Maresme, from Vilassar de Mar to Montgat.
