Festivals and cultural activities
Malgrat de Mar is a town of considerable social and cultural tendencies. Both art lovers (theatre, cinema, music, painting …) and those who prefer to learn about traditional culture (the sardana, dance, carnival giants, etc.) have a chance with these all year round activities:
- Cavalcade of the Three Kings. 5 January
- Festival of St. Antoni (benediction of animals). 17 January or nearest Sunday
- Carnival Friday. Parade through the town Literary gathering.
- St. Jordi (St. George, patron saint of Catalunya) book awards. Nearest Sunday to 23 April
- St. Antoni de PÃ dua Fair, at the old quarter, around 21 June.
- St. Joan (John) Bonfire. Arrival of the Flame of Canigó. 23 June
- Festival of the Verneda district. Last Sunday in June
- Can Mercader District Festival. First Sunday in July
- St. Joan & St. Pau Festival (John & Paul). Folk dances. First Sunday in July.
- St. Roc Main Summer Festival. 15 & 16 August. Choir singing, popular folk groups (havaneres), fast painting competitions, theatre, open-air cinema, cycle race, etc.
- International Folklore Events. September
- Sardana Festival (Aplec). First Sunday in October.
- St. Nicolau Main Winter Festival 6-8 December. Includes photography competitions, gathering of carnival giants, antique motorcycle show, exhibition of agricultural and craft products, etc.
- Sta. Llúcia concert. Around 13 December.
- Weekly street market: each Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
