Malgrat de Mar is a coastal municipality in the province of Barcelona (Catalonia, Spain). It belongs to the Maresme region, located in the north of the province, and is the last municipality in the region along the coast. The Tordera River forms the border with the neighboring Selva region, already in the province of Girona. It has a beach of about 7 km and offers numerous hotels and campsites.
The historical centre features the San Nicolás church with its neoclassical façade and bell tower with an octagonal base, known as the “Cathedral of the Coast”. It also has mediaeval buildings such as the manor house that is now the library and the old hospital, and modernist buildings such as Ca l'Arnau or Torre de l'Esquena.
Particular points of interest include the castle hill, Francesc Macià park, Can Campossol park, the former gardens of the house where Zenòbia Camprubí, the wife of the winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature Juan Ramón Jiménez, was born.
